This week features two recommendations in one - but that is because they share the same name! I am talking about both the hospital workwear and the medical comedy called Scrubs!
I’ve recently been wearing scrubs to work, and they are the most comfortable thing in the world. They look and feel like pyjamas, they come in bright, colourful prints that you would never wear elsewhere, and they are full of pockets for storing anything and everything!
I’ve had one set for a while, but had to stop wearing it once my pregnant belly was too big for it. Now I am back working, I have splurged on a few different sets to keep me entertained. The health service where I work has ‘tropical Fridays’ and encourages staff to dress bright and cheery on these days. My scrubs aren’t particularly ‘tropical’ but they are bright. I also have a dress covered in cassowaries so I feel that covers the tropical aspect quite well.
I now have 4 sets:
Tropical dinosaurs featuring pink dinosaurs and ferns
Cats on clouds fishing for stars
Baby dinosaurs hatching out of eggs
Colourful dragons
All of my scrubs are from Dangerfield (I’ve shared my thoughts about them before). If you are a healthcare worker, you can purchase scrubs for 50% off by entering your workplace. Even if you aren't a healthcare worker, I highly recommend them!
And now to my other scrubs-based recommendation, the TV show scrubs. Where of course they also wear scrubs, but nowhere near as bright and colourful!
This is obviously an old show and follows the lives of doctors and nurses at Sacred Heart Hospital. But it is funny and always puts a smile on my face. I think the first two seasons are my favourite as I had them on DVD and would play them over and over. I think I can still sing the DVD menu music…remember when that was a thing?!
I also love all the guest stars the show would feature. My particular favourite was Michael J Fox because he is amazing (how have I not done a post on him yet?). A very close second was Brendan Fraser as Jordan's quirky brother, even if his final appearance led to more tears than should be allowed for a medical comedy.
Take home messages this week:
If you are a healthcare professional, buy some Dangerfield scrubs, you won’t regret it!
Watch Scrubs for some light comedy relief (according to JustWatch, it is available to stream on SBS on Demand, Disney+ and Stan)Share
Kicked my arse: I am enjoying adding the extra topics to my Substack (with regards to Jack, writing and pharmacy). But I have discovered 2 posts a week is not sustainable. I will go back to one a week and either cycle through them monthly, or post whichever one strikes my fancy!
Kicked arse: I had a wonderful morning tea on Saturday for my birthday and a lovely weekend camping. I got to read a whole book (it was a Goosebumps book from the 90s so not very long…but still counts), eat tasty food and go swimming. The water was refreshingly cold (similar to my love of cold showers).
